Looking up at the starry sky and the Milky Way has always been an immortal romance of humanity for thousands of years. However, this poetic romance is gradually overshadowed by the influence of urban light pollution. “When the sky becomes dark to a certain extent, the stars will shine brightly. ” In the name of exploration, humanity is destroying the beauty of "bright moon and sparse stars". Let us save the disappearing Milky Way and guard the pure darkness!
What is light pollution? Why did it have such a significant impact? In fact, light pollution is a new type of environmental pollution, including the pollution caused by dry light on the environment and things that may have adverse effects on human visual environment and physical health. In the 1930s, the international astronomical community first raised the issue of light pollution. Nowadays, the spread of light pollution is constantly damaging the ecosystem and our health.
On the one hand, the increasingly severe light pollution is affecting the observation and research of astronomers, damaging ecosystems. When the night sky on Earth is illuminated by artificial lights, many celestial bodies disappear from sight or even advanced lenses, and many of the night lights are not well utilized, only scattering into the air, causing waste of resources. In addition, plant physiological cycles and animal ecological rhythms are easily disrupted by light pollution.
On the other hand, light pollution can also cause anxiety, disrupt the hormone secretion cycle, and lead to adverse reactions such as depression and low mood. It can also cause early puberty in developing children and disrupt their growth rhythm. It is worth noting that working and living in a light polluted environment for a long time can lead to the onset of myopia and cataracts, as strong and colorful light environments constantly damage the function of human eye lenses. So reducing light pollution is also protecting ourselves as humans.
How far away from the city can one see the real Milky Way? We hope the answer to this question becomes shorter and shorter. The bright clothes of the city at night are still invincible to the disappearing Milky Way. Let the Milky Way reappear and return to its true colors of darkness. We look forward to more people joining the environmental protection activities to protect the dark night, and we look forward to working together with more people to protect the pure environment and protect our own health!
